Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer among Black men in the US, and all Black men are at high risk for this disease.
Black men are diagnosed at a rate 80% higher and die at a rate more than twice (120%) that of white men - this is the largest racial disparity for any major cancer for men or women.
Early detection screening is key to beating prostate cancer. Men diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer have a 10-year survival rate of more than 98%. With later-stage diagnosis, the 10-year survival rate ranges between 18-35%.
Knowledge about prostate cancer treatments and managing survivorship is critical for patients’ quality of life.
The American Cancer Society estimates show an alarming increase of 80% for prostate cancer diagnoses from 2019 (174,650) to 2025 (313,780). This is the largest increase for any major cancer.
