4th Annual African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit September 25 and 26, 2008 Rayburn House Office Bldg. and Washington Convention Ctr. Washington, DC The 2008 summit was hosted at the Rayburn HOB on Thursday, September 25th, and for the first time the Friday session (September 26th) was included as an official part of the Congressional Black Caucus' Annual Legislative Conference. This session was held at the Washington Convention Center. MAJOR SESSIONS: Summit Opening Presentations: Statements by Thomas A. Farrington, PHEN Founder and President and Congressman Ed Towns (D-NY); Presentation by Edward J. Benz, Jr., MD, President and CEO, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and President, American Association of Cancer Institutes. Session I: PHEN Rally Against Prostate (RAP) Cancer Initiatives This session presents PHEN strategies for "reaching men where they are" through its RAP Cancer initiatives. Luncheon Presentation Presentation by Mr. Tavis Smiley, author, talk show host, political commentator, and health advocate. Session II: New and Innovative Treatments and Approaches Presentation of new and evolving efforts in research, immunotherapy, genetic markers and imaging. Session III: Legislative Initiatives and Needs A summary, status and the projected impact of existing prostate cancer legislative initiatives in the US Congress. Also an examination of the needs for additional legislation. Session IV: A Prostate Cancer Action Blueprint A town hall meeting format to outline an action blueprint to address the African American prostate cancer crisis and the overall war on prostate cancer.
