PHEN Social Media Background:

Since 2011 PHEN has webcast monthly educational programs from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA with presentations by noted prostate cancer medical experts. PHEN began streaming these programs on Facebook Live in 2017 increasing monthly viewers from a few hundred to 5,000+. PHEN and its church partners are using this social media approach to expand educational outreach in communities nationwide.

How The Social Media Initiative Works:

1. PHEN announces the presentation topic and speaker two weeks prior to the broadcast which is on the 2nd Wednesday of each month beginning at 6 PM (ET). Churches post this information on its bulletins, website and Facebook page. 
   
2. PHEN provides a link for each church partner to live stream the presentation on its Facebook page and to share with followers on the day of the broadcast. Presentations with Q&A are for 40 - 60 minutes.
   
3. People watching the program on Facebook Live can ask questions of the presenter via Facebook, twitter and email during the live streaming. Each presentation also remains available on the Facebook page following the live stream for future use.

The Social Media Initiative Responds to A Call for Action
Audience surveys conducted by PHEN at its national events show the following:

• 65% of the attendees are aware of the prostate cancer crisis within their communities.
  
• 75% want more knowledge about prostate cancer screening, treatments and clinical trials - this is a clear call for action.
  

PHEN’s Social Media Initiative Empowers Churches

Churches can use their Facebook page for monthly online prostate cancer educational programs to help save lives within their congregations and local communities, and this effort networks churches nationally in the fight against prostate cancer.
